here's what you need to know.
as suspecting humans began developing gryanite, a toxin that attacks vampire venom and shifter blood, carlisle unknowingly injected himself with a harmful dose. having been one of many hospital staff members willing to try the new drug under the guise of human disease research, carlisle was surprised to find himself dangerously ill soon after the drug entered his body. this revealed his vampire status to gryanite developers, leading to his murder through a second fatal dose. humans and supernatural creatures are now at war.

- the setting is WASHINGTON STATE, real time. as for character ages, that's flexible. think of the series as being between New Moon and Eclipse having been shifted to 2021. but if you would rather write a canon a couple years older or younger, that's fine.
- SAM ULEY is the current alpha of the Quileute pack. all characters who are canonly shifters have already joined this pack. JACOB BLACK may choose to start his own pack depending on what his writer decides.
- HYBRIDS DO NOT EXIST. sexual intercourse between any heterozygous species pair cannot result in reproduction.
- SHIFTERS DO NOT IMPRINT. people misinterpret the imprinting process and we are just going to leave it out to keep things simple.
- VAMPIRES HAVE BODILY FUNCTIONS. they don't require sustenance other than blood to survive, but they can choose to eat or drink for pleasure. they cannot, however, reproduce.
- the general human population has discovered the existence of vampires and shifters and many are not happy with them. soon after the Cullens arrived in Forks a vampire and a shifter were detained by the government and experimented on at SRC (SEATTLE RESEARCH CENTER) which eventually led to the development of a drug, gryanite. NONHUMANS are being forced into hiding. BILLY BLACK representing the Quileute reservation publicly offers refuge for any shifters who need a safe place to stay.
- CARLISLE CULLEN is dead. he was murdered by humans and his death has triggered somewhat of a war between supernatural creatures and humans.
- humans have developed a weapon called GRYANITE. it is a neurotoxin that contains traces of both shifter blood and vampire venom, making it lethal to vampires and shifters in high enough dosages. this toxin, however, is non-toxic to humans because it looks for large amounts of vampire venom or shifter blood to latch onto. it can be injected directly into the human bloodstream or ingested and absorbed to create a very pungent-tasting warning to any vampire who attempts to feed on an "infected" human. in small doses, vampires can experience headaches, disorientation, or unconsciousness but will generally recover quickly. shifters, however, can become quite ill from exposure to it.
- the use of gryanite has allowed humans to disable and imprison vampires and shifters. many humans have risen against these threats and have accepted roles as hunters.
- as a result of the development of gryanite, vampires are forced to be more careful about who they feed on.
- QUINOIRE PRISON FOR THE SUPERNATURAL (QPS) is the primary facility responsible for the imprisonment and experimentation of vampires and shifters. it is comprised of hundreds of small cells made of graphine in order to keep vampires in despite their superhuman strength.
- ESME CULLEN has begun an effort to do what Carlisle would have wanted. she is running an underground organization of vampires whose main goal is to ease the tension between species and figure out a way to get rid of the drug as inconspicuously as possible and without any unnecessary violence. all vampires willing to remain inconspicuous and refrain from violence are welcome to stay with the Cullens.
- VICTORIA is building an army of newborns in order to protect herself and to set them loose on research facilities developing more gryanite.
