background
american companies alone use enough paper to encircle the earth 3x.
science has always meant a great deal to you. your family is full of intelligent people who value scientific research-- something worthy of grabbing attention in a city surrounded by so much folklore. one thing you have shared with the nearby reservation is your appreciation and love for the earth. it has been one of your favorite things about the location since you arrived and sometimes, you wish you'd come sooner. although you were born in america, you learned enough about europe from your parents to know that america is a good place to care about the environment-- america needs it more.
glass bottles made today take longer than 4,000 years to decompose.
you recycle everything. you've always been creative and spent most of your childhood playing with your sister through the use of elaborately made forts consisting of glass bottles, sticks, leaves, and cardboard. you have tried out most extracurriculars available to you... from sports, to dancing, to volunteer clubs in school. although you enjoy staying active and you're in good shape, nothing really stuck. you like to try new things and your attention span didn't allow for much commitment on your part growing up.
rainforests are cut down at a rate of 100 acres per minute.
rainforests used to be your main priority. the twelve-year-old conservationist in you was always working toward being energy efficient... and probably all the while aggravating those around you with your passion. when your parents died, your priorities changed quite a bit. all of a sudden, you were being raised by an aunt you barely knew and had no answers regarding what had happened to your parents. this caused an amount of grief and fear that you had never learned how to deal with.
our planet gains inhabitants numbering to 77 million people per year.
77 million new people a year... and you felt like you were locked in a dark room with nothing to look at but isolating walls. you got quieter, less impulsive... less comfortable with going to the forests alone. @kari was your world but there was only so much she could do. you needed to cope in your own way. and often that led to you distancing yourself from your aunt. this worked out fairly well until you got sick.
only 1% of the earth's water supply can be used-- the rest is either ocean water or frozen solid in the arctic.
you did nothing, it seemed, but drink water and sleep for days. your fever was at a consistent 102o landing you in the hospital. it was determined that you were dehydrated, and after a night of observation and fluid treatment, you were sent home. as one would think, even a hefty hospital bill hadn't been able to provide you with a correct diagnosis. you don't blame anyone-- being able to turn into a giant bear wouldn't have been the first thing on your mind either.
rainforests help to regulate the temperatures around the world and the weather patterns as well.
it would have done you well to have the stability of a rainforest. not long after you found out you were a shifter, you found out that it made you a potential target for violence and experimentation. you remain fearful of that, however finding other shifters in the area has since brought you some comfort in that you are not alone. being a volunteer on the reservation, you have learned a great deal about the dangers that surround you.
