peter is very easy to read. he generally tries to avoid conflict but will not turn down a fight if he believes it is justified. he is very loyal, willing to do just about anything if asked by someone he trusts. he's also very persistent and will not let something go if he really wants it. he always speaks his mind so you never really have to worry about whether he's lying.
background
peter didn't have the easiest transformation. he was created by maria during the southern wars for the purpose of serving as a soldier in her army, to be killed once his newborn strength wore off. it is due to jasper that he wasn't killed during the purge that took the rest of the three-year-old vampires at that time.
peter had gotten jasper's attention because of his ability in combat. he was very capable and proved to be useful when it came to killing, despite his distaste for the lifestyle in general. being hyperkinetic made him stand out and time brought him close to jasper. jasper ended up convincing maria to let him stay and from then on, peter knew that he owed jasper his life.
somewhere along the line, charlotte was brought in as a newborn and peter was quickly drawn to her. after a lot of fighting to keep her, peter realized that maria would never have been willing to budge despite jasper's attempts to convince her. in order to prevent charlotte from being purged, peter fled with her and jasper let them go.
over the years, peter made it a point to visit jasper to check up on him. most importantly, he had come to tell jasper to leave maria once he realized that there were other vampires out there living much better lives. neither peter nor jasper had been happy with maria's clan, but had not realized that there was another way to live. once they acquired that knowledge, the choice to stay away from maria became obvious.
peter and charlotte spent a lot of time moving around and hiding until recently. once peter got word of carlisle's death, he returned to washington in hopes of finding jasper alive. he has since been living in a fairly isolated cabin in the forest of forks, having killed the owner to feed.
